To Know Her Is To Love Her: Beatles song.

To Know Her Is To Love Her: Introduction

This Beatles recording, “To Know Her Is To Love Her,” is one of their Decca audition songs from 1962. As we know, Decca rejected The Beatles, but that was their loss! The slightly faster Decca audition version of the song is not available commercially. However, there are bootlegs, and those feature Pete Best on drums.

The song itself is a Phil Spector composition. Together with his group, “The Teddy Bears,” they reached number-one in the United States with their single. However, the title of their song is “To Know Him Is to Love Him.” Be that as it may, many artists would cover the song and change the wording to suit, just like The Beatles did.

The Fab Four only officially recorded this song twice, once for their Decca audition and another for the BBC. The Beatles made many appearances on BBC Radio shows in the early 1960s, of course. Luckily, the BBC recording is commercially available, albeit a slower version than their audition tape.

There is a version of the song that they sang in the Star-Club in Hamburg, Germany, in December 1962. However, this version is of very poor quality and commercially unavailable.

The Beatles version of “To Know Her Is To Love Her” that we are mostly familiar with is on their 1994 “Live At The BBC” album.

They recorded it at the BBC Paris Studio, London, on July 16, 1963. Then the BBC broadcast it on August 6, 1963, as part of the “Pop Go The Beatles” show.

We don’t recommend the bootleg, but it is available on YouTube if you need to see it. However, we show the official version from their BBC recordings. Once you hear it, let us know what you think below.
