Carl Perkins originally recorded this song in December 1955. However, the Beatles would often perform the song in their early days. In fact, the Fab Four recorded it four times for BBC Radio shows in the early 1960s. Not only that, but they recorded the song for their Decca audition tape too (with Pete Best on the drums). So, they must have thought highly about the song.

Some of the songs from the Decca audition tape are commercially available, but this one is not. There are bootlegs available with all the songs, of course. In the Decca audition tape, it’s clear that Paul McCartney is exaggerating his accent in places to make himself sound more American than the original singer. This is especially evident in the letter “R” when he sings the line, “Darling, don’t ever let me go.”

On June 1, 1963, they recorded a version of “Sure To Fall (In Love With You)” at the BBC Paris Theatre in London for the popular BBC Radio show, “Pop Go The Beatles.” This broadcast then went out on June 18, 1963, and this version is on their 1994 album, “Live At The BBC.”

The Fab Four then recorded another version at the Aeolian Hall in London, on September 3, 1963, again for “Pp Go The Beatles.” This broadcast then went out on September 24, 1963. Furthermore, this version is on their 2013 album, “On Air: Live at the BBC, Volume 2.”

The band recorded two more versions of the song, but these are not commercially available yet:
