The Beatles’ Version

Long before The Beatles became famous, their name was “The Quarrymen.” Just like many other groups who want to become successful in their trade, they would sing cover songs. Indeed, The Quarrymen were good at what they did, and everyone knew it!

However, after the name change, The Beatles continued to cover other people’s songs. In fact, they were masters at covering the more obscure songs. In addition, they had the knack of singing B-sides too. Therefore, the Beatles recorded both sides of this Carl Perkins single.

The Beatles were hungry for success because they knew they had a lot to give. In order to project themselves even further, they would appear on many different BBC Radio shows, usually recording them a few days previously.

The Beatles recorded “Lend Me Your Comb” on July 2, 1963, at the Maida Vale Studios, Delaware Road, London. This was due to go out on the “Pop Go The Beatles” programme on the 16th.

While most others** recorded that day ended up on the 1994 album “Live At The BBC,” this one wasn’t. Possibly because they had no room for it. However, they had room for it on the 1995 album “Anthology 1.” They also released the same version in 2013 on their “On Air: Live At The BBC, Volume 2” album.

**The other songs recorded on that day are: There’s A Place, Clarabella, That’s All Right (Mama), Carol and Soldier Of Love.
