Chuck Berry released “I’m Talking About You” as a single in February 1961, which had “Little Star” as the B-side, but the record never got into the charts.

The Beatles were masters at covering rock and roll songs that came over to the UK from America, in particular the more obscure ones. It’s not surprising, then, that they covered this one as well and would regularly sing it while gigging. In fact, The Beatles sang more Chuck Berry songs than any other singer or group.

As well as The Beatles recording the song, other famous artists did as well. For instance, it appears on The Rolling Stones 1965 album “Out of Our Heads.”

In the early 1960s, The Beatles would regularly record songs for BBC Radio shows. They recorded “I’m Talking About You” for a live edition of “Saturday Club,” which aired on March 16, 1963. As a result, the song is now on their 2013 album, “On Air: Live At The BBC, Volume 2.” The live show came from the BBC’s Broadcasting House in Portland Place, London.

Unfortunately, the quality of the recording is not up to the usual standard, but it’s well worth a listen. Listen carefully, and it does sound like they have an audience of some sort. However, with the quality like that of an old AM radio, it’s difficult to say what the source actually is.
