Here, There And Everywhere: Background
Written by Paul McCartney, the credit for this love ballad goes to the successful songwriting partnership of Lennon-McCartney, of course. McCartney’s inspiration for the song comes from the The Beach Boys‘ “God Only Knows” from the band’s 1966 album, “Pet Sounds.”
Indeed, Co-founder of The Beach Boys, Brian Wilson, took his inspiration from The Beatles’ “Rubber Soul” album from 1965. So, this was basically a reciprocal influence.
“Here, There And Everywhere” is a love song and is one of McCartney’s personal favourites. He wrote it at John Lennon’s house, “Kenwood,” in Weybridge while waiting for Lennon to wake up.
“I sat out by the pool on one of the sun chairs with my guitar and started strumming in E, and soon had a few chords, and I think by the time he’d woken up, I had pretty much written the song, so we took it indoors and finished it up.”

McCartney was with his girlfriend, Jane Asher, at the time, so in all likelihood she would be the subject. He also claims to be singing in the style of Marianne Faithfull. Together with harmonies from himself, Lennon, and Harrison, the song is simple but effective.
Recording Studio
The Beatles began recording the song on June 14, 1966, in Studio Two of the EMI Studios in London during the 7.00 p.m.–2.00 a.m. session. They recorded 4 takes that day but recorded a further 9 takes on June 16th, with the last of those, take 13, being the best one suitable for the rhythm track.
After overdubbing and further tweaks and adjustments, the song was complete by June 17th. The song sits as track five on side one of the “Revolver” album between “Love You To” and “Yellow Submarine.”
