Paul McCartney wrote “All My Loving” like a “piece of poetry” and then put a song to it later. He later says that he wrote it while travelling on a tour bus. Then, at the destination point, on a piano backstage. Indeed, it was the first time that Paul McCartney wrote the words first.
Of course, normally he had instruments to accompany the composition. He also thought it might end up being like a country and western song. But obviously, the Fab Four stamped their own style on it.

“It was the first song I’d ever written the words first. I never wrote words first, it was always some kind of accompaniment, I’ve hardly ever done it since either. We were on a tour bus going to a gig, and so I started with the words. I had in mind a little country and western song.
We played the Moss Empire circuit a lot, and there were always these nice, big empty backstage areas. The places have all become bingo halls now. We arrived at the gig, and I remember being in one of these big backstage areas, and there was a piano there, so I’d got my instrument. I didn’t have a guitar; it was probably with our road manager, and I remember working the tune out to it on the piano. It was a good show song; it worked well live.”

All My Loving: EP Releases
Although not released as a single in the UK or US, “All My Loving” did become the title of an EP in those countries. Of course, they didn’t consider it good practice to release a single from the albums in the 1960s.
However, it was a single in Canada, where it made number one in the charts. But the Americans imported the Canadian single in such numbers that it did manage to break into the top 40.
Meanwhile, in Australia, where the fans were some of the most passionate on Earth, it also reached the number one spot.
All My Loving (Song): Recording Studio
The Beatles recorded the song on July 30, 1963, with 11 takes, but there was no take 5. They then considered take 11 to be the master take suitable to become the rhythm track for three subsequent overdubs. Mixing also began on August 21 for the mono version and on October 29 for the stereo version. However, during the 1960s, a slightly longer stereo version hit Europe as a bootleg copy.
They used Studio Two of the Abbey Road Studios, London, during the 5.00pm-11.00 pm session. In fact, they were also recording in the same studio between 10:00 am and 1:30 p.m. On this day, The Beatles managed to complete “Please Mister Postman,” “It Won’t Be Long,” “Money (That’s What I Want),” “Till There Was You,” and “Roll Over Beethoven.”
When The Beatles made an appearance on the Ed Sullivan show on February 9, 1964, they sang “All My Loving” first. So, this version appears on their 1995 album, “Anthology 1.”
In the early 1960s, when Beatlemania was taking root, The Beatles would obviously take advantage of more airtime on BBC Radio. So they would record shows, which gave them extra publicity. In this case, they recorded the song four times for BBC Radio programmes.
The version of “All My Loving” on their 1994 album, “Live At The BBC,” comes from a recording on February 28, 1964, for airing on the “From Us To You” show on March 30.
“All My Loving” also appears in two of The Beatles’ films, “A Hard Day’s Night” and “Magical Mystery Tour.” However, in the latter film, this piece is an instrumental version.
